President signs Telangana Bill, gives assent to President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh

President Pranab Mukherjee today gave his assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill that paves way for the creation of Telangana as India's 29th state. He also approved the imposition of President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh. The union cabinet had recommended the imposition of President's Rule on Friday, nine days after Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned as Andhra Pradesh chief minister in protest against the creation of Telangana.

A low intensity quake measuring 4 on the Richter scale shook India's northeastern states on Friday evening, officials said. "The quake occurred at 6.41 p.m. There has been no report of casualties or damage to property so far," an official of the state disaster management centre told reporter.
