Four burnt alive in Haryana accident

Published:

Four young men from Uttar Pradesh who were on their way home after picking up their friend from the Delhi airport were burned alive early Saturday after their car collided with a truck near Panipat and caught fire, police said.

Three of the victims had gone to the Delhi airport on Friday to pick up their friend Bunty from Mumbai. After picking him up, they were on their way to Shamli town in neighboring Uttar Pradesh state when their car collided with the truck on the Panipat-Karnal stretch of National Highway No. 1 (NH-1), 15 km from Panipat.

“The car hit the diesel tank of the truck and caught fire immediately. The victims were burned alive inside,” a police official said.

He said some people tried to free the teenagers, but the car’s central locking system jammed and the four were trapped.

While three youths were killed on the spot, some bystanders managed to free one youth after breaking the windows. However, he too died when he was taken to the hospital.
