Colombo: The Pacific Airlift Rally (PAR), jointly organized by the U.S. and Sri Lankan air forces, will be held at Colombo’s Ratmalana Airport beginning Aug. 22. India will also participate.

The rally is a biennial military airlift symposium sponsored by the U.S. Pacific Air Forces for the nations in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year is the eighth edition of the PAR exercise series, which began in 1997.

The focus is on improving airlift interoperability among 21 regional forces in support of multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

Exercise-related events include briefings and expert meetings, a command post exercise on military airlift support during natural disasters and a field exercise that builds on the command post exercise.

Participating in the exercise are Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, United States and Vietnam.

Three U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 374th Airlift Wing in Yokota, Japan, as well as one C-130 from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force and Sri Lankan Air Force will participate in the field exercises.
