Baba Ramdev’s Supporter Raj Bala Still Critical

New Delhi, July 8: Raj Bala, 51, who suffered spinal injuries during the brutal police crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his followers at the Ramlila Maidan on the night of June 4, continues to be in critical condition, according to doctors treating her.

Rajbala, who lives in Gurgaon, was sitting on a dharna at the Ramlila Maidan when she was hit by the cues of policemen who were trying to ward off Ramdev supporters. Rajbala is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi and has been bedridden for more than a month.

The health status report released Thursday by senior consultant N. Shashi Gururaja says, “The patient is conscious and obeys verbal commands. She continues to be ventilated and her condition is very critical.”

According to doctors, Raj Bala remains quadriplegic (paralysis caused by disease or injury).

“His vital signs are being maintained with increased pharmacological support. Surgery was performed, with decompression and fixation with plate, screw and cage,” the statement added.

Raj Bala underwent surgery for cervical spine injuries on June 5. Baba Ramdev had visited Rajbala in the hospital when she returned to Delhi a fortnight ago.
The Delhi government had promised to bear all hospital expenses for Rajbala.
